I was raised in a Christian family, and spent my early years in Canterbury, Southland and Otago, before completing training as a Land Surveyor and moving to Te Puke. My early Christian life was marked by involvement in a local youth group and Christian camps. I married my amazing wife Amy in 2003 and we enjoyed 17 years together before she tragically passed away following a short illness in early 2021. I have four children– Zara (16), Jake (14), Caleb (12) and Sienna (9). I’ve enjoyed playing various sports all my adult life, with ultimate frisbee being my current favourite. I love God, people, and God’s Living Word.
What Do I Bring to the Eldership Role?
I've been an Elder with Golden Sands Baptist for two years, and subsequent to that was involved in governance and leadership with a smaller local church for a further seven years. I’m measured and balanced in my attitude and approach, and I prefer to work as part of a team. Having four children involved in our Youth and Children’s ministry, I have hands-on experience with the dynamics and challenges families face when raising children in the current age. I also know how difficult it can be to experience a lack of connection with others and have a heart for seeing people accepted, connected, and linked into our church community.
My hope for GSB
That we maintain a vibrant welcoming atmosphere that impacts around Papamoa and beyond. That we can be compared to the early biblical church, where others saw how much they loved each other and more were added to their number each day. That we can encourage each other and spur one another on in pursuit of God’s will and his Kingdom. That we will be a beacon of light in Papamoa, and that many will be powerfully impacted, saved and brought into God’s Kingdom through this community. That when we are gone and forgotten, this church will still be going strong, preaching the gospel of the love, power and resurrection of Christ, of forgiveness of sins and the hope of Eternal Life. Praise be to God!
