Children & Families

More than a program

The Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children

Mark 10:14

Here's what we got going on for Kids at GSB

Preschool: There are couches in the back of the auditorium in front a small play pen. Parents are welcome to hang out there amongst all of us. We also have a space in a separate downstairs room where we run a relaxed bible program and the kids can run around a bit more. A parent or guardian must stay with under 5's at all times.

Primary: We typically have our primary kids in with all of us for the singing, notices and for any other fun things we do. They then will head to an upstairs room where there is a super fun program run just for them. Parents are welcome to go along or to stay and listen to the sermon.

We believe that God has called us together as an intergenerational family and that each and every one of us has something that we can contribute.

Especially the kids.

In fact Jesus seems to remind us multiple times that our children usually have an easier time recognising Him than we do. So we as a church got together to decide how we were going to relate to the kids in our community and this is who we felt like God called us to be.

Our vision for kids in our community

To Know and Be Loved by Jesus

Our biggest hope is that our kids fall in love with Jesus and know how much He loves them.

This looks like...

Lessons that focus less on morals or how to be a better person and more on Jesus, what He has done for us, and who He has made each one of us to be. Its creating an environment where each child is safe and feels loved.

It Takes a Village

Parents have a unique role in discipling their kids, but we believe that they weren’t meant to do it alone. So we recognise that we all, as a community, have a big role in helping them to know Jesus.

This looks like...

Us engaging with the kids before, during and after the service. It looks like shared high-fives, and shared funny faces. It looks like the community coming around families and embodying the Aroha.

We Learn From Them

We believe that our children remind us what the kingdom of God is like, so we will make sure that we have spaces to interact together as they help us to see Jesus.

This looks like...

Spending more time together. Kids are in with us for a large portion of the service, worshipping, praying and sharing amongst us before they go to their lesson. It looks like being ok with extra noise, games and messiness because the Gospel itself is messy.
